Onitsuka Tiger is part of global sports brand Asics, where it's positioned as a luxury lifestyle brand with over a 150 global locations doing over $600,000,000 a year in sales. The early and lasting success of Onitsuka Tiger and Asics didn't happen by accident, happened because of the unyielding principles of Kiaochiro Onitsuka. The first principle is sound bad, sound mind. Onitsuka officially started the business in 1949 in a post Worse War Two war torn Japan. In 1947, he moved to Kobe, where he went to fulfill his promise to his friend and comrade to take care of his aging parents if he didn't make it back. He even changed his name from Sakaguchi to his friend's family name, Onitsuka. He worked in Kobe where he witnessed a bunch of kids having to resort to a life of crime to survive, which really bothered him.
