Defining true luxury with an analogy from @adamtgroh

The creator begins by stating that 'luxury is silk underwear' and proceeds to explain this metaphor. He argues that true luxury is a private, intimate, and personal experience for the owner, not a public display of wealth like logos and yachts. He contrasts this philosophy with pop culture's obsession with visible status symbols and connects it to his own work as a clothing designer, where the value is felt by the wearer, concluding with a call to action for viewers interested in his perspective to follow for more.

Transcript excerpt

Luxury is silk underwear. It has to be one of the single best ways I've ever heard the word described. This means luxury is an intimate, close, comfortable feeling that only the owner of the luxury silk underwear experiences. Because while pop culture is obsessed with logos and yachts and crazy cars, when the reality is is there's such an absurd amount of wealth in the world that good luck trying to figure out who has it. Even though a yacht is big and flashy, the person who owns it doesn't own it, so that you know they have it. They own it for themselves and because they enjoy yachting culture. Even me, a designer of clothing, someone who works in the visual side of life, I still find this definition absolutely true. And I still consider my clothing luxury because you don't know the logo, you don't know who made it, and the person wearing the clothes is the one reaping the benefit. When I design a wardrobe, I don't design it for anyone else better that one client. And so they're the ones who get to intimately experience their silk underwear. Wild. Right? Now that that rank out of my head, if you enjoy the luxury world, follow for more and let's see what else we can get into. Cheer
