Explaining a product design origin from @theironsnail
The creator explains the origin story behind the unique shape of Patagonia's fleece chest pockets. He recounts how a designer and sailor, Ben Kettenhofen, was frustrated with his sunglasses falling into his armpit and redesigned the interior pocket bag to solve the problem. The creator then demonstrates how the original design concept, which mimicked the curved flap, was intended to perfectly hold sunglasses, contrasting it with the current, less effective design.

Transcript excerpt
Have you ever wondered why Patagonia's pockets are shaped like this? According to Patagonia, Ben Kettenhofer, the Patagonia designer and sailor, was really frustrated that in a tier, when he took off his sunglasses and put them in this pocket, they went under his underarm. So to fix that issue, he changed the interior pocket bag. Sadly, Patagonia changed the original modification, but see how the sunglasses don't really fit in this pocket unless you turn them to the side? Better original solution was to shape the pocket like this pocket flap. It kind of curves down and comes to a big thick point, and what that would do would prevent your sunglasses, one, from standing straight up, but two, from falling into this way, they would be more naturally attuned to this specific shape.
