Explains future of amateur sports from @wearecalamity_
The creator presents a thesis on why amateur sports represent a massive, underpriced opportunity in the new media landscape. He argues that the business model of sports is shifting from tickets and TV rights to attention, which has been decentralized by content creation, and predicts the rise of creator-owned leagues, brand-backed grassroots tournaments, and athletes building audiences independently before signing professional contracts.

Transcript excerpt
Is why I'm going all in on amateur sports. Sport has always been a business, but the business model is starting to change. The real product isn't tickets or TV rights anymore. It's attention, and attention is decentralized. Content has removed the barriers of entry. You no longer need giant stadiums, broadcast deals, and major sponsors to reach an audience. You just need a good story, a camera, and consistency. Amateur sports is the most underpriced attention market in the world right now. We are in the early internet phase of sports media. The same decentralization that happened in music, film, and business is now happening in the sport. In my humble opinion, in the next ten years, you'll start to see creator owned leagues, brand backed grassroots tournaments, athletes with large audiences well before they sign any contract, and local teams becoming global cult brands. That's the opportunity, and that's why I'm going all in on amateur sports. Shout out your favorite amateur sports league below.
