Have you ever heard about the Cornish Knockers? Down in the old tin mines of Cornwall, folk have been known to encounter Knockers, fiendish mine sprouts who live deep underground. Sometimes these little creatures could be helpful towards the miners knocking on the stone walls to warn of impending collapse or guiding lost workers through the tunnels but sometimes the pesky knockers could be mischievous and steal tools from under miners noses or extinguish their oil lamps. To appease these tricksy spirits it was a habit for Cornish miners to throw their last bite of pasty down into the tunnels as an offering to these underground dwellers. Today all of Cornwall's tin mines have been closed down for many years but perhaps the knockers still live down there to this day knocking on echoing walls and awaiting a bite of Cornish pasty.
