Interior design tip with examples from @hansloreidesign

The creator, an interior designer, explains that a common reason rooms feel flat is a lack of height variation in the decor. He uses an analogy of a garden to illustrate the need for a dynamic 'skyline' and then provides a series of examples, from basic (art, bookshelves, mirrors) to more sculptural (pedestals, statement lamps, high-back chairs), to show viewers how to incorporate tall objects into their space.

Transcript excerpt

You don't have enough tall things in your room. Could it be that the secret sauce you worse looking for is actually height? Just like a garden would be boring if everything is planted the same height, so too in a room, if everything's the same height, it's just not very dynamic. Your eye needs to be able to bounce around a little bit. So where do you get that height? Things mounted on the wall like art, a tapestry, a bookshelf, window treatments, a skinny tall mirror. But let's get sculptural. Let's get bold. We could start with a statement floor lamp, always a good choice. Next level would be a pedestal with an urn, maybe two of these at two different heights. Maybe a plant for that tall textural enclosure. Maybe put a shorter plant on a pedestal and turn it into a tree. Maybe a chair with an extra high back. Maybe we could hang a long pendant in the corner. Just some ideas. A good room always has a skyline. Mix your heights, and suddenly it feels alive.
