Transcript excerpt

A Cirque du Soleil acrobat who broke at least eleven bones when she plunged to the ground in front of a stunned Portland audience has filed a $16,000,000 lawsuit. The lawsuit for the first time lays out just how extensively injured Maria Konfigtova was in the 15 foot fall from an aerial hoop in 2024. She suffered a concussion, double vision, and fractures to her lower back, wrist, skull, and at least seven bones in her face. Konfigtova, who was 26 at the time, alleges that Cirque du Soleil cut corners when it came to safety, including by failing to place a mat underneath her and giving her a hoop that was far too light. The lawsuit says Confectoba is among 16 of the company's performers who've suffered notable injuries over the past twenty tier, with most of them hurting themselves in falls ranging from 10 to 94 feet. Three died. A representative from Cirque du Soleil declined comment. You can read more about this in my story on oregonlive.com/portland.
